Largest public solar project in Greece built on Austrian technology

The Peloponnese Peninsula in Greece is among the sunniest regions in Europe, but when it comes to the use of solar energy, the Southeast European peninsula relies on technology developed in the Tyrolean Alps. The Austrian solar expert TiSUN and the local partner ANDRIANOS are currently implementing the largest public solar project in Greece. From the beginning of July 2013, the solar systems "made in Austria" will cover about two-thirds of the ideal hot water needs of the Hospital of Kalamata.

"More than 35,000 liters of water per day are needed in the clinic of the port city of Kalamata. With almost 535 m² collector and seven Pro-Clean stratified tanks with a total storage capacity of 35,000 liters, in the summer months this requirement is almost completely provided by the TiSUN solar system. The annual solar fraction is about 35%", explains the responsible TISUN partner Andrianos Georgios, regarding the efficiency of the solar thermal system. The solar system should be put into operation in just a few weeks.

The hospital of the 70,000-inhabitant city Kalamata is among the most modern hospitals in Greece. The 226 solar panels are mounted on the roofs of eight buildings of the hospital facing a southerly direction and an inclination of 55º. "We estimate that about one third of the energy costs for heating and hot water can be saved through the installation of the TiSUN solar system. The system will generate energy savings of 1.615,000 kWh per year", explains Georgios Andrianos.

Since January 2012, the solar thermal manufacturer TISUN and its partner Andrianos have planned the large-scale solar project. The detailed and specifically tailored planning was crucial for the project approval. Annually, 546 tonns of CO2 will be saved after project completion.

ANDRIANOS established in Greece and started trade, service and installation of solar heating systems in 1994. The company is certified with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 in all areas of business. It is the exclusive representative of TiSUN in Greece since 2007 and has installed solar thermal systems for houses, hotels and public buildings all over the country. In this period of crisis within the dynamic sector of renewable energy, ANDRIANOS has been investing in research and know-how to fulfill the environmental aims of the country.

TiSUN has been developing, producing and selling complete systems for the utilisation of solar heating energy for over two decades. The solar systems provide 100% independent, infinitely available, free solar energy for backup heating, water heating, process heat and cooling. Known as Europe's solar heating specialist, TiSUN has an export quota of 83%. The company employs a workforce of 100 at the main location in Tyrol/Austria and 90 sales personnel in Europe. TiSUN products are available in 48 markets in the EU27 and candidate countries, Switzerland, the former CIS states, the USA, MENA and India. All serially produced solar collectors feature multiple certifications. In addition to the Solar Keymark, which is valid across Europe, and the Austria Solar Seal of Quality, quality certifications from five other countries confirm the high standard of the products. The ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management Test Certificate verifies that both product and service quality levels are especially high. Since 2010, the company has also been certified under the international environmental management standard ISO 14001.
